7. Planet Uradel
Uradelns trace their origins back to a contingent of several thousand pioneers from ancient Terra, who left what were then the countries of northern Europe. Today, the blond and brown hair with blue and green eyes of the attractive Uradelns speaks of this heritage. Uradel is a Feudal Shrine world of the Imperium of Man. While most Feudal worlds are politically fragmented by competing warlords, Uradel has been united under the Dukes of House Zeller since before the planet was reunited with the rest of Humanity in the mid 31st Millennium during the Great Crusade. The Uradelns preferred to remain a Feudal society for cultural and moral reasons after the planet was reunited with the rest of Humanity and it was allowed to do so because a Zeller became an Imperial Saint during the Horus Heresy. For a Feudal world, the planet is remarkably civilized: boasting many Universities, Hospitals, Cathedrals, Monuments, Theaters, Aqueducts, and Stadiums for popular sports such as mock Melee battles and other athletic events. As such, the people of Uradel tend to be athletic, traditional, pious, scholarly, amiable, and robust.
The Imperial garrison of Uradel consists of roughly 100,000 men of the Planetary Defense Force (PDF). This is the primary PDF, with the secondary and tertiary PDFs capable of bringing the total number of troops up to 50 million. Each year, 5,000 of the most physically fit and zealous men of the Uradeln PDF are conscripted into the Imperial Guard and their places are taken by 5,000 newly conscripted PDF. Thus, a new, high quality Uradeln regiment is raised each year for the Imperial Guard and ships out to a war zone within the Imperium of Man. By special agreement with the Adeptus Terra, after five years of service in the Imperial Guard, Uradeln regiments are returned to Uradel or to a planet that the regiment has recently pacified where they are allowed to retire as PDF. Uradeln regiments draw their veteran units from those who choose to serve in the Imperial Guard for longer than the agreed upon five years.
The population is roughly 450 million. The Imperial Fleet Presence is light. The planetary governor's capital is Castle Zeller, the traditional home of the Dukes of House Zeller. The PDF maintains planetary garrisons at Castle Zeller, Fortress Metrovia, and Davic Bastion. Davic Bastion is used mostly for training new Imperial Guard Regiments. The closest Adeptus Astartes Chapter is the Ultramarines. The Prefix Inquisitoria is Stable. The Imperium trusts the faithful and loyal Uradelns enough to allow them to have Combined Arms Regiments while most Guard Regiments must be just one branch; Infantry, Armor, Artillery, etc. The use of Combined Arms Regiments has allowed the Uradelns greater flexibility in their operations.
